After cleaning, impregnation is absolutely essential, as the original protective layer is partially removed during the cleaning process.
We recommend thoroughly cleaning your fabric at least once a year. In addition, it’s important to keep the canvas clean in between. This can easily be done with lukewarm water, without the need for special products.
Of course, every situation is different. If the canvas is exposed to intensive use or harsher weather conditions, it is recommended to clean it several times a year for optimal results and a longer lifespan.
The right maintenance products for your tent or canvas: What should you pay attention to?
There are many cleaning agents on the market, but not every product is suitable for technical textiles. It’s important to use exactly the right maintenance and cleaning products for your fabric or canvas. Using the wrong detergents or aggressive products can damage the material, causing it to lose its protective properties or functionality.
Which product for which type of material or fabric?
There are many different types of fabrics, each with their own maintenance needs. Our canvases are mainly made from polyester, PVC, or a combination of both.
In addition, the maintenance of construction components such as wooden poles, aluminum structures, and stainless-steel parts also deserves attention.
We offer specific maintenance products for PVC, polyester, PVC windows, screws, and hinges. These carefully formulated products clean effectively without damaging the material.
They remove deposits and atmospheric pollution in a gentle way, contributing to a longer lifespan and a lasting, beautiful appearance of your canvas, fabric, or structure.
Which cleaning agents should definitely be avoided?
Never use chlorine-based products (such as bleach) or abrasive materials like scouring sponges. These irreversibly damage the fiber structure of the fabric and can significantly worsen the problem.
How to use our cleaning products?
All our maintenance products are easy to use and require no special tools. Each cleaning product includes clear instructions for optimal results. Many of the products can be applied directly, but can also be diluted with water depending on the level of dirt.
For the best results, we recommend using one of our soft brushes. The fine bristles clean thoroughly without damaging the fabric, ensuring an efficient and safe cleaning process.

Our R&D team at Above & Beyond worked together with experts from the cleaning industry to develop our maintenance products.
This collaboration led to formulas that not only keep our tent fabrics clean, but also strengthen and protect them — without ever causing damage.
Using cleaning products: our tips & tricks
When should you clean your fabric?
We recommend cleaning your fabric once a year. When your canvas is exposed to dust, rain, UV rays, etc. for a long time, weathering occurs. The fabric loses its shine, becomes less water-repellent, and may develop stains or even mold.
The better you maintain your fabric, the less likely these problems will appear.
In what order should I clean my fabric?
Follow these simple steps carefully for the best results:
-
Cleaning
Start by removing loose dirt with lukewarm water. Wet the entire canvas so it becomes thoroughly soaked.
Then use the right product and follow the instructions on the label carefully. Avoid cleaning in direct sunlight and never let the fabric dry completely with cleaning product still on it.
Use the appropriate brushes, such as our long-handled hand brush or our telescopic washing brush for larger canvases.
-
Drying
Rinse thoroughly until all cleaning product is removed from the fabric. Then let it dry in a dry, covered area. Make sure air can circulate around the entire canvas — don’t place it on the ground or fold it while drying. Avoid drying in direct sunlight.
-
Impregnation
After drying, a protective treatment is important, especially for polyester fabrics. Cleaning reduces the protective layer; impregnation restores water- and dirt-repellent properties and adds UV protection.
Exception for PVC windows
For soft PVC windows, the order is slightly different: after applying the cleaning product, you can dry the windows with a microfiber cloth. Rinsing is not necessary for PVC windows.
The cleaning product contains a special polywax that adds an extra protective layer to the PVC surface.
Dosage of cleaning products
Our cleaning products always indicate how to use them and for which surfaces they are suitable. Most products can be applied undiluted.
To make this easier, we offer a practical spray nozzle attachment.
