Buying a stretch tent: what should you pay attention to?

When buying a stretch tent (or stretch marquee), several key factors help you choose a tent that fits your needs and local climate conditions, wherever you are in the world.

Quality of the fabric

The fabric quality of the stretch tent is crucial for durability and strength. Our stretch marquees use high-quality coated polyester fabric weighing between 560 and 740 g/m². Heavier fabrics are generally more robust and better suited to withstand intensive use and demanding weather conditions.

Waterproofness

Pay close attention to the tent’s waterproofing. Our stretch marquees have a waterproof PVC coating, making them 100% waterproof. The “water column” rating, an indicator of water resistance, is also important. Our stretch marquees feature a water column of over 3000 mm, which means they remain fully waterproof even in prolonged rain. This makes them suitable for regions with frequent or heavy rainfall.

Tensile strength and wind resistance

The material’s tensile strength indicates how much tension the fabric can withstand. Our tents can handle tensile forces of up to 1200 N per 5 cm and can withstand strong winds of up to 102 km/h (depending on the chosen material), equivalent to wind force 9. This makes them suitable for use in windy coastal areas, open fields, and exposed locations in different parts of the world.

UV resistance

Consider whether the tent is UV-resistant to prevent fading or damage from sunlight. All of our tents are UV-blocking and fire-retardant according to M2/B1 standards, providing extra safety. This high UV resistance makes our stretch tents ideal for sunny climates, such as Mediterranean, desert, or tropical regions.

Finishing of the materials

A high-quality finish is essential for the tent’s longevity. Our tents are high-frequency welded instead of sewn, resulting in extra durability and fewer weak points. The corners are reinforced four times, making them sturdier than many other models.

Our stretch marquees are available with movable clamps that can be placed on the fabric’s edge wherever needed for the setup. Alternatively, you can choose a tent with built-in loops along the edges. Both systems offer flexibility in configuration and are suitable for a wide range of installations worldwide.

Ground surface

Finally, consider the ground surface where you will place the tent. This helps determine the best anchoring options—such as tent pegs, concrete blocks, or fixed ground anchors. With the right anchoring, our stretch tents can be safely installed on various surfaces and in different climates, from coastal sand to urban pavements.

Production in Belgium, worldwide shipping and use

All of our stretch marquees are produced in Belgium using top-quality European materials, ensuring a durable product that will last for years. We ship and supply our tents to customers on multiple continents, and they are successfully used in a wide range of weather and wind conditions worldwide.

FAQ

The single-coated stretch tent, called Hiflexx, has a weight of 740 g/m². This cloth has a waterproof PVC coating on the outside of the tarpaulin. This tent is extra robust and is ideal for professional use. The tent can therefore remain set up for a long time (a few months to a year).

The double-coated stretch tent, Triflexx, has a weight of 560 g/m². This fabric has a waterproof PVC coating on both the outside and inside. This makes the tent suitable for semi-professional use and can remain outside for several months at a time.

Of course, as always, the more often you assemble a tent, the easier it becomes and the faster it goes.

The delivery time of the stretch tent depends on the size of the tent and whether it is custom-made or a standard size. Usually the production time is 5 to 10 working days. Delivery depends on the final distination of the product.

Please note: this period may vary.

Loops

  • Integrated loops (every 50 cm) with a tensile force of up to 7500 kg.
  • The additional loops offer more attachment options.
  • This makes the tent even easier and faster to set up. In addition, the quadruple reinforced corners ensure maximum strength and durability.

Clamps

  • Robust, movable clamps, which ensure a secure attachment to the tent fabric.
  • Easy to precisely adjust the tension of the fabric.
  • Ideal for attachment to different structures, thanks to the extra flexibility."

For smaller stretch tents (6.5 x 5 m, 6.5 x 6.5 m, 6.5 x 10 m), two people are sufficient to set up the tent. For the larger sizes (8.5 x 10 m, 10 x 10.5 m, 10 x 12.5 m, 10 x 15 m, 10 x 21.5 m) extra manpower is useful. To set up the biggest tents, it is not a luxury to work together with five people.

Of course, as always, the more often you assemble a tent, the easier it becomes and the faster/better it goes.

International presence

Did you know that we have delivered stretch tents for some of the most iconic events worldwide—including installations at Burning Man, the Dior Fashion Show in Nevada, and a wide range of celebrity events around the globe.

Our extensive range of fabrics and finishes is also unique in the market. In addition to various high-quality fabric types, we are the only manufacturer offering multiple finishing options: our tents can be fitted with both loops and clamps. Furthermore, all of our tents are compatible with different types of poles—such as aluminium or wooden versions—making them a perfect match for any style, atmosphere, or technical requirement. And that is exactly the reason why so many come to us.

What is a stretch tent?

A stretch tent is a versatile structure known for its flexibility and unique look. Its fabric is made from a stretchy, waterproof material that can easily be tensioned using poles and ropes. What makes the stretch tent special is the ability to create different shapes depending on the placement of poles and the tensioning of ropes. This makes it perfect for a wide range of events, from festivals and weddings to garden parties, where both style and practical shelter are required. Stretch tents offer shade and protection from rain and wind, making them a practical and aesthetic choice for outdoor use.

We offer three different types of stretch tents, each with unique benefits and features:

The Hiflexx stretch tent is ideal for those seeking maximum flexibility. Its 740 g/m² fabric is robust and has a single PVC coating, providing excellent protection from rain and wind. This type of tent is especially suited for extended or intensive events and is also easy to set up with a small team.

The Triflexx stretch tent features a double PVC coating. While lighter at 560 g/m² than the Hiflexx, it remains resistant to harsh weather, including strong winds (up to 85 km/h) and heavy rain. This tent is perfect for semi-permanent use, offering a good balance between durability and mobility.

The Easyflexx stretch tent: This tent is specially designed for users seeking simplicity and ease. The Easyflexx is lighter (270 g/m²) and easier to handle than other models without sacrificing durability. This model is ideal for private use or smaller, short-term events requiring quick setup and takedown.

Why choose a stretch tent?

Our stretch tents are completely waterproof, regardless of the model you choose. Thanks to the coating (on both sides for Triflexx tents, and on the exterior for Hiflexx tents), water cannot penetrate the fabric, so rain simply rolls off.

Additionally, our stretch tents are extremely weather-resistant. While it’s generally advisable to consider that larger tents are more susceptible to wind, for most of our standard sizes and for both available qualities, a structural construction book is available with detailed wind load information.

How to maintain your stretch tent

Here are some tips to extend the lifespan of your stretch tent. Following these tips will ensure your stretch tent lasts for many years.

  • Clean the tent immediately after takedown. This prevents dirt from embedding in the fabric and damaging the fibres.
  • Use a solution of water and mild soap to clean your tent. Avoid using caustic substances or products containing acetone.
  • Inspect the tent for any damage or wear immediately after takedown, and repair as needed to ensure the tent is ready for the next event.
  • Allow the tent to dry completely before storage. Storing a damp tent often leads to mold growth.
  • Store the tent and all related parts in a dry, cool environment. When stored in a warm, humid location, mold growth becomes more likely.
