Frequently asked questions

Questions about terrace canopies

The questions private customers ask us most often, answered right away.

That depends on the fabric and on the set-up. Some of our fabrics are made for long-term outdoor use, others for a single season. What applies in every case: when storm or snowfall is forecast, it is better to take the fabric down or let it drop. Snow that settles on a tensioned fabric weighs heavily and pulls on your fixing points. Ask us about the type of fabric that suits the way you want to use it.
Hanging lighting on or under the structure is usually no problem. Heating needs more care: always keep a distance between a heat source and the fabric, and choose an electric infrared heater rather than a gas heater with an open flame. Ask us for advice on your specific set-up, as the safe distance depends on the type of heater and on the fabric.
That varies by municipality and by situation. In Flanders, small, non-permanent structures in the garden are exempt from a permit under certain conditions, but those conditions cover surface area, height, distance to the property line and whether the structure is attached to your house. A tent or fabric you can take down is assessed differently from a fixed veranda.
Not automatically. The anchoring determines everything: on grass or soil you work with ground anchors, on a terrace of pavers or tiles with concrete feet or a fixed fitting into the surface, and on a wooden deck with a fixing that passes through to the solid ground beneath. Tell us where the poles will stand and what the surface is, and we will advise you on the right anchoring materials.
A breathable fabric lets air and some light through. That keeps it cooler under the fabric and allows the wind to pass through, which lowers the load in a gust. It does not keep out rain. A waterproof fabric does keep rain out, but it has to be pitched at an angle so the water runs off. If you mainly want shade on warm days, choose breathable. If you also want to stay seated through a shower, choose waterproof.
Yes. We have our own production department in Belgium, so we make fabrics to measure. A sloping wall, a dormer window in the way, a tree you want to keep: send us the point-to-point dimensions and photos of the situation, and we will work out a proposal with the right shape and fixing points.
